Chris and Jason from JVS Imports and Corsair Distillery, respectivelystopped by recently and we were able to sample a range of Corsair’s offerings. With a distillery in Nashville, TN and Bowling Green, KY, Corsair has been producing quality spirits of all different types since 2007. Included in the lineup that they shared with us were various types of vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, and absinthe. It’s not often that you see a distillery investing in such a wide portfolio of spirits and maintaining such a great deal of success.

Among the standouts from their sampling was the Ryemageddon, a rye whiskey distilled from malted rye and chocolate rye, the latter adding a bit of roast flavor to the whiskey. This one actually had a hint of flavor reminiscent of an English style brown ale, which tends to be on the maltier side, exhibiting a pronounced chocolatey flavor. This whiskey should make for a wonderful complement to vanilla ice cream.

Also of note was the Quinoa Whiskey, with a bit of a sweeter, more approachable flavor. With so many whiskies to choose from nowadays, it can be difficult and overwhelming to choose one that is suitable for one’s palate. This whiskey would be a formidable option for someone newer to the whiskey scene, which is now quite saturated.

A final highlight, the Triple Smoke, is a whiskey that is distilled from three fractions of malted barley, each of which is smoked by a different type of wood. The result is a flavor reminiscent of both American and scotch whiskey, blending smokey and sweet beautifully and seamlessly. The Triple Smoke is a great option for a scotch drinker who is looking to explore American whiskey, and vice versa, as the flavors of each come through in the flavor profile.
